We’re proud to announce that Blackfriars Restaurant is now part of the Everybody Welcome campaign — a regional initiative working to make the UK the most accessible tourist destination in Europe by 2025.
Led by Destination North East England and funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority, the campaign empowers hospitality and tourism businesses like ours to provide a genuinely inclusive welcome for all visitors. As part of this commitment, Blackfriars has signed up to the accessible online platform WelcoME, a web-based app that helps guests with access needs plan their visit with confidence and ease.
WelcoME enables visitors to share their access requirements ahead of arrival, so our team can be fully prepared to provide the best possible experience — whether that’s offering step-free access, meeting neurodiverse needs, or simply giving a warm, personalised welcome.
By joining this initiative, we’re not only improving the guest experience but also supporting the wider mission to grow accessible tourism across the region — an area often overlooked despite the ‘Purple Pound’ (the spending power of disabled people and their families) being worth £15.3 billion to England’s economy.
We’re delighted to be taking positive steps toward more inclusive hospitality and contributing to a more welcoming future for all visitors.
