Blackfriars Trail App

Blackfriars, set within the historic Dominican Friary dating back to 1239, occupies Britain’s oldest dining room the former refectory.

Visitors can now explore the rich history of the former friary, through five heritage boards around the site, featuring QR codes that link to an interactive trail app. Supported by Durham University, the app offers detailed descriptions, audio guides, past-and-present image sliders, and even augmented reality, bringing the story of this scheduled ancient monument to life for all ages. By blending digital media with heritage, the app helps us both see and experience the past in new ways. The trail app is available to download from app stores.
