We are delighted to announce that Blackfriars Restaurant has been officially accredited by Taste of Northumberland, recognising our ongoing commitment to showcasing the exceptional food and drink produced across Northumberland and the wider North East.
As one of the UK’s oldest dining rooms, Blackfriars has been championing regional produce for decades. Our menus celebrate the changing seasons, working closely with local farmers, fishermen and artisan producers to create dishes that reflect the quality, heritage and character of our region.
From Lindisfarne oysters and Northumberland lamb and beef to locally grown vegetables, every ingredient is carefully selected for its quality, provenance and flavour. We are also proud to work with outstanding local drinks producers, featuring Northumberland spirits from Hepple and Ad Gefrin.
Taste of Northumberland celebrates businesses that are passionate about sourcing, serving and promoting local food and drink. The accreditation recognises those that support regional producers while offering visitors an authentic taste of the county’s rich culinary heritage.
For us, sourcing locally is about more than exceptional ingredients. It is about building long-term relationships with trusted suppliers, reducing food miles, supporting the local economy and preserving the traditions that make Northumberland’s food and drink scene so distinctive.
Whether guests are enjoying our set menu, à la carte, Sunday lunch menus or dining in our medieval Banquet Hall, they can be confident that many of the ingredients on their plate have been carefully sourced from producers right here in the North East.
Receiving the Taste of Northumberland accreditation is a proud milestone for Blackfriars and reflects our dedication to celebrating local produce, supporting regional businesses and providing memorable dining experiences in one of Newcastle’s most historic restaurants.
